"In addition to climate change, the world is also facing the environmental disaster of massive biodiversity loss. We need to focus more of our attention on this issue. Sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystem restoration directly relate to our most vital needs – food, soil, water and air to breathe. We therefore need active support from the whole of society.

German companies have significant responsibility for nature conservation, too – domestically and, through their supply chains, in other parts of the world. I am delighted that some companies are already very committed to biodiversity conservation. We need more of them! We need companies that show what is possible and inspire others.

As a contribution to the Action Agenda for Nature and People, businesses can register their biodiversity commitments with the CBD. I would like the German business sector to become more actively involved. Coming from a major economy like Germany, such commitments would send an important signal.
